Musical collective founded in Naples in 1993 by cellist Marco Vitali and semiologist Massimo Bonfantini. The group has distinguished itself for its dedication to contemporary music, filling a gap in Naples’ concert seasons and promoting musical languages of the 20th and 21st centuries. Dissonanzen aims to explore and disseminate contemporary music, ranging from masterpieces of historical twentieth-century works to experiments from the 1960s and ’70s, up to the latest innovations in music, theater, and dance. The ensemble’s repertoire includes works by composers such as Luciano Berio, John Cage, Morton Feldman, Luigi Nono, Giacinto Scelsi, and Karlheinz Stockhausen. Over the years, Dissonanzen has collaborated with numerous internationally renowned artists, including Cristina Zavalloni, Marc Ribot, Michel Godard, Markus Stockhausen, Adam Rudolph, Alvin Curran, and Stefano Scodanibbio. These collaborations have enriched the ensemble’s musical landscape, allowing for the exploration of new sonorities and expressive languages. On its twentieth anniversary in 2013, Dissonanzen released a box set of five CDs with the label Die Schachtel, providing an overview of its activities in improvisation. Among other discographic productions are albums such as “Dissonanzen” (2014), which attest to the ensemble’s commitment to promoting contemporary music.
