Helene Glüxam (A)
Helene Glüxam (1992) is an Austrian double bassist, singer, and composer, and one of the most compelling emerging voices of the new generation of European musicians. Her musical training began very early: at the age of five she started studying the cello, later moving to the clarinet and eventually to the double bass, the instrument through which she found her most authentic voice. In 2013 she graduated in jazz double bass from the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and later continued her studies with Peter Herbert at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz.
Her artistic research focuses on the relationship between the deep register of the double bass and her voice, which she uses as a parallel and complementary instrument. This dialogue between acoustic sound and vocality allows her to create intense and original sonic landscapes in which timbre becomes the central element. Active in various ensembles, including Kurdophone and HALM, Glüxam has performed at festivals such as Wien Modern and Porgy & Bess, standing out for an approach that blends minimalism, improvisation, and pop influences. Her aesthetic is marked by a strong attention to the spatial dimension of sound and its ability to evoke intimate, suspended atmospheres. Despite her young age, she has already secured a prominent place in the Viennese scene, and her career is poised to grow in the coming years.
