Mohan Shyam Sharma (IN)

He is one of the leading living masters of the pakhawaj, a barrel-shaped drum fundamental to the Dhrupad tradition of North India. His training took place within the guru-shishya tradition, through a direct relationship with the great exponents of the Dagar gharana. Sharma is known for his impeccable technique, absolute rhythmic precision, and a rare ability to modulate the timbre of the pakhawaj, transforming it from a percussive instrument into a true melodic vehicle. He has collaborated with the most important performers of Dhrupad, participating in international festivals and contributing to the dissemination of a tradition that keeps its bond with spirituality and meditation intact. His presence alongside Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar represents the continuity of a centuries-old practice in which voice and percussion are not separate elements, but parts of a single ritual process.
