Stridulations 1-14 for multichannel immersive audio system
An electronic musician and sound artist from Vienna, he is known for his interdisciplinary approach that combines computer-generated music, sound studies, and architecture. His compositions explore the acoustic dimensions of insects, focusing on spatiotemporal patterns derived from swarm behavior and time synchronization. In this context, synthetic sounds interact with recordings of insect sounds, following their internal logic to create new abstract entities. Schwarz aims to deliberately blur the line between synthesis and field recording, suggesting deep and dissociative states of listening. His work has been presented at numerous institutions, including CTM Berlin, Singuhr Hörgalerie Berlin, MAK Center for Art and Architecture in Los Angeles, Kunsthalle Wien, Ars Electronica Linz, and Tokyo Arts and Space. He has released several albums on labels such as ETAT, ALTER, Gruenrekorder, and AVA. Beyond his musical career, Schwarz is co-founder and curator of the Viennese experimental music festival “PARKEN” and co-creator of works like “Los Bar,” “Strookoffer,” “Laxbar,” and “Relax,” a series of interactive sculptures in Los Angeles, Brussels, and Vienna. In 2023, he presented the composition “OSWYC” at the ORF Musikprotokoll festival, exploring musical phenomena based on swarms and temporal synchronizations. This piece was adapted for the Ambisonics 3D sound installation at Dom im Berg in Graz.
