INNER_SPACES SPRING 2023 – ECHOES OF HOPE

The spring program of INNER_SPACES 2023 takes place over five evenings, from 20 February to 15 May, all united by the theme of hope. Because there is a need, never more than now, to discern a flame, albeit flickering, that shines softly on the vast gloomy, cosmic and historical horizon, and feeds the hopeful expectation of laughing dawns like expanding echoes.

A proposal that intertwines instrumental music and electronic music or with live electronics in a tighter way, in a confrontation of the most recent generation with authors of the great repertoire, such as Arvo Pärt and Olivier Messiaen, who in many cases constitute an essential reference for the new generation of art of sounds. The majestic, enthralling, multifaceted sonorities of electronic music (Kali Malone, Loscil, Abul Mogard, Thomas Ankersmit), mixing harmonic frequencies and disharmonious aggregates, colored and diaphanous timbres, synthesis sounds and field recordings, shaded surfaces and flashes of light, continuous forms and dialectical processes, in this edition will be juxtaposed, in a relationship with alternating choirs, with glimpses of live instrumental music or with live electronics, of a monographic nature: Arvo Pärt, Olivier Messiaen, Félicia Atkinson, Lukas Lauermann, Zago-Liszt .
Instruments and electronics, like sprouts, blooms and spring blossoms, in a perspective resonant with echoes of hope.
At the heart of the festival, on March 27 in the Church of San Fedele, in collaboration with the Carlo Maria Martini Foundation, a musical dramatization of the Via Crucis with texts by Cardinal Martini written for the Centro San Fedele in 2010. Music taken from the Passions of J.S. Bach will alternate with pieces by Liszt, including ancient instruments, vocal quartet, narrator, electric guitar and electronic music transitions. A musical synthesis to represent the mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus, the center and source of Christian hope.
