Aho Ssan (GH / F)

Aho Ssan is the pseudonym of Paris-based composer Niamké Désiré. His background is rooted in a context where electronic music, digital culture, and questions of identity have been intertwined from the very beginning: software, video games, cinema, hip-hop, and contemporary music coexist within the same horizon. His debut album Simulacrum (2020) immediately brought him to international attention for his ability to combine complex electroacoustic composition with a powerful political dimension tied to themes of race, diaspora, representation, and power. His compositions are structured as organisms in tension: digital sound masses that thicken and break apart, sharp timbres, sudden explosions, and moments of extreme fragility. Aho Ssan works with virtual instruments, generative systems, sampling, and synthesis, yet every sound is embedded within a precise narrative, never used as mere decoration. He has collaborated with KMRU, Clipping., and Blackhaine, and has presented his work at festivals such as CTM, Unsound, and Berlin Atonal, demonstrating a rare capability to hold together expressive urgency and formal rigor. His music is not just ‘dark’ or ‘intense’: it is a way of questioning, through sound, social structures and dominant narratives.
